Marrakech
at a glance
Flight time from UK: 3 hours 30 minutes
Marrakech is known as “The Red City,”a reference to the wealth of
rose-tinted buildings contained within its pinkish-orange walls.
Marrakech has often been referred to as the Capital of Southern Morocco
and is an exotic mix of Arab, Berber and sub-Saharan influences.
There are few more pleasurable ways to spend time in Marrakech
than wandering around the seemingly endless maze of markets.
These souks comprise alley upon alley of tiny retail cubicles. The
further in you venture the more interesting they become.
Whilst The Red City may seem a chaotic place, an enormous US$2
billion was spent on tourism infrastructure in 2007 with more being
spent each year. It is the quintessential, short haul exotic
destination waiting to be discovered.
